One breath, ten metres, complete quiet — a coached first freedive. A small-group experience in Fujairah, run to a standard we would put our own name on — because we do.
Allow about 10 hours door to door. Departures are kept small, kit is provided, and hotel pickup can be added at checkout.
The specialist activity on this experience is delivered by our certified freedive school, working under their own permits and insurance, with a Aura Avenue driver-guide looking after you door to door.
Every operator we subcontract holds the permits, insurance and safety record we would demand of ourselves — checked before we put our name near them. You get the adrenaline; the paperwork was our job.
Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop
06:30 · East through the mountains
Early pickup in the Carnival and around three hours east to the Fujairah coast. Sleep if you like; the Hajar mountains will still be there when you open your eyes. Arriving rested matters more in this sport than any other we run.
09:30 · Theory that actually matters
Your coach from the partner operator covers the physiology of the breath-hold, the mammalian dive reflex — the wiring you share with seals — and the safety rules that are never bent. It is genuinely fascinating, and it reframes what your body can do.
10:30 · Breathwork on the mat
Before any water, you learn relaxation breathing: long, slow, unhurried. You will also learn why hyperventilating is banned, permanently, no exceptions. By the end of the session your resting heart rate has already dropped.
11:15 · Skills in the shallows
Into the sea with long fins and a low-volume mask. You practise the duck dive, an efficient fin stroke, and equalising with a relaxed jaw. Everything is slower and quieter than scuba — that is the point.
12:00 · The line
Coached descents down a weighted buoy line, one diver at a time, your coach within arm's reach on every attempt. Ten metres arrives sooner than you think, and the silence down there is total. One breath, no bubbles, no machinery — just you.
13:30 · Lunch, debrief, home
Eat, compare depths, and let the coach talk you through what your body just did. Then the drive back, with drop-off typically around 16:30. Fair warning: this one converts people.
Insider tips
- Hydrate properly the day before, and skip the second coffee on the morning — a racing heart burns through oxygen you will want later.
- Eat a light breakfast only. A full stomach argues with a breath-hold, and the breakfast always wins.
- Relaxation is the entire sport. The metres come when you stop trying to earn them.
- If your ears say no, come up. There is always another descent, and the coach will respect the decision more than the depth.
- Ask the coach about photographing your best descent from below — one frame of you mid-water on a single breath beats any souvenir.
Questions, answered
How long do I need to hold my breath?
Less than you fear. Depth work on a first session uses surprisingly short holds, and with the relaxation techniques most beginners exceed what they thought possible within the day. The coach builds it up gradually — nobody starts with a stopwatch.
Is freediving dangerous?
Taught properly, it is a discipline built on conservative safety: never alone, one diver down at a time, coach within arm's reach on every descent. You never push past what the coach signs off. The rules exist precisely because the sport takes them seriously.
I struggle to equalise my ears on flights. Will I manage?
Equalising is the gatekeeper of depth, and the coach teaches technique specifically for head-down descents. Many people who struggle on planes do fine with the right method. If you are congested on the day, you do not dive — we reschedule rather than force ears.
Is equipment provided?
Yes — wetsuit, long fins, mask and the buoy line all come through the partner operator. Bring swimwear, a towel and a dry change of clothes. If you own a low-volume mask you love, bring it.
Can I do this and the scuba discovery dive on the same day?
No — keep them on separate days. Freediving after scuba within the same day is not recommended for physiological reasons, and both deserve your full energy anyway. We can happily build both into one trip with a gap between.
How fit do I need to be?
Ordinary fitness and comfort in open water are enough. This is not a strength sport — calm, relaxed people routinely out-dive tense athletic ones. If you can swim confidently and follow instructions, you are qualified to start.
