A proper dune buggy under you for a session that does not require a luxury budget — per driver. A small-group experience in Abu Dhabi, run to a standard we would put our own name on — because we do.

Allow about 2 hours door to door. Departures are kept small, kit is provided, and hotel pickup can be added at checkout.

The specialist activity on this experience is delivered by our permitted buggy operator, working under their own permits and insurance, with a Aura Avenue driver-guide looking after you door to door.

The desert works on its own clock: light that turns from white to gold in twenty minutes, dunes that change shape with the wind, and a silence you can hear. We time every departure around the light, not the schedule — and your driver knows which crest to stop on.

Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop

  1. Check-in at the desert base

You arrive at the desert base at your booked slot, sign the paperwork and meet your marshal. Sessions run through the day, and the whole visit is around two hours gate to gate. The session is delivered by a permitted partner operator, which is how it should be.

  2. Gear up

Helmet and goggles are issued and fitted, followed by a safety briefing covering hand signals, spacing and what the marshal expects of you. It takes around fifteen minutes and it is not optional. Ask your questions now, not on a dune.

  3. Warm-up laps

You start on flatter ground to get the feel of the throttle, brakes and steering before the terrain gets ambitious. The buggies are forgiving machines, and most drivers settle within a few minutes. The marshal watches until satisfied.

  4. Into the dunes

The convoy follows the marshal into the open sand, and this is where the money goes: climbs, descents and long carving lines across the bowls. The pace is set to the group's ability. You will not be dawdling.

  5. The ridge stop

A breather partway through, typically on high ground, for water and the photographs that justify the whole enterprise. Engines off, helmets off, ten minutes of quiet desert. Then back on the machine.

  6. Back to base

The convoy returns, you hand back the gear, and you discover sand in places sand should not be. That is the receipt. Budget means no frills around the driving, and none of the frills were the point.

Insider tips

  • Book the first slot of the morning or the last of the afternoon. Cooler air, softer light, better photographs.
  • Empty your pockets before you set off. The dunes keep whatever falls, permanently.
  • Bring a buff or light scarf to wear under the helmet; it is the difference between tasting the desert and merely seeing it.
  • Sunscreen the back of your neck and hands. They catch the sun even inside a buggy.
  • If two of you are booking, ask about two-seat buggies at booking; sharing the machine halves the cost of the second grin.

Questions, answered

Do I need a driving licence?

A road driving licence is typically not required, because the session runs on private desert terrain under a marshal's supervision. Bring photo ID for check-in. Any specific requirements for your date are confirmed at booking.

How old do I need to be to drive?

Drivers are typically required to be 16 or over. Whether younger guests can join as passengers depends on the operating partner's rules, so ask at booking rather than at the gate.

Is safety gear included?

Yes. Helmets, goggles and the safety briefing are included, and the session runs under a marshal with a permitted partner operator. You bring nothing but closed shoes and common sense.

Will I have to leave a deposit?

The operating partner may require a refundable damage deposit at check-in, which is standard practice for self-drive machines. The amount and payment method are confirmed at booking, so there are no surprises at the base.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, ideally trainers, plus comfortable clothes you do not mind sacrificing to sand. A buff or scarf under the helmet keeps dust out, and in winter mornings bring a layer, because wind chill at speed is real.

What does budget actually mean here?

Same dunes, same machines, same marshals, fewer frills. There is no private camp, no refreshment spread and no photographer trailing you. You are paying for the buggy and the desert, which is exactly what you get.
