Your day, stop by stop

Pick-up · The easy part
We collect you from your hotel in our Kia Carnival and head out of the city — the drive to the dunes takes around 45 minutes. Your driver-guide talks you through the session on the way. Cold water in the car, as always.
At the desert base · Kit and paperwork
You meet our partner operator's team at their desert base. Helmets, goggles and dust scarves are handed out, forms are signed, and buggies are allocated. These are proper side-by-sides — two seats, roll cage, four-point harnesses.
The briefing · Ten minutes that matter
Throttle, brakes, hand signals, and how the convoy works behind the lead driver. It is short, clear and non-negotiable. Nobody moves until everyone has it.
The warm-up · Finding the throttle
The first runs are on flatter sand, getting the feel of how the buggy floats and slides. Confidence arrives quickly — the machines are more capable than you are, which is the point.
The big dunes · What you came for
The lead driver takes the convoy into the larger dunes — climbs, bowls and ridgelines, with the pace set to the group. He reads the sand ahead so you can concentrate on driving it. This is the longest and loudest part of the morning.
The crest stop · Photos and breath
A pause on a high dune for water and photos, with nothing man-made in sight. Swapping drivers usually happens here if you are sharing. Then one more run before the sand releases you.
Back to town
Kit returned, air conditioning restored, and the Carnival takes you back to your hotel. Expect sand in your shoes for days. Total round trip is around four hours.

Insider tips

Book the first slot of the morning — cooler air, firmer sand and much better light for photos.
Wear a buff or scarf even in winter; the dust finds everything, including your teeth.
Strap or mount your phone — a chest-mounted action camera beats hand-held footage every time, and loose phones vanish into dunes.
Empty your pockets before you climb in. The desert keeps whatever falls.
Go light on the throttle near a crest and let the buggy settle before you tip over the top — the lead driver will say this too, and he means it.

Questions, answered

Do I need a driving licence?

Our partner operator typically asks drivers to hold a full driving licence, so bring it on the day. Passengers do not need one. Confirm the exact requirement with us when you book.

Can children come along?

Children can usually ride as passengers above a minimum age and height set by our partner operator, while drivers must be adults. Tell us ages when booking and we will confirm exactly what applies. Child-sized helmets are available.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, light trousers and a long-sleeved top you do not mind getting dusty. Goggles and scarves are provided, so leave the sunglasses-only plan behind. The white linen outfit should stay at the hotel.

Is it safe, and can I ask for a gentler pace?

The buggies have roll cages, harnesses and speed limits, and the convoy follows a lead driver who picks the lines. If you want it calmer — or livelier — say so at the briefing. The pace is genuinely adjustable.

Can two of us share one buggy?

Yes — they are two-seaters, so one drives while the other rides. Swapping at the photo stops is normally fine if both of you meet the driving requirements. Agree it with the lead driver first.

Does it run in summer?

Yes, but only in early-morning and late-afternoon slots — the cabins are open and midday heat is no joke. October to April is the comfortable season. We will steer you honestly on timing when you book.
