Every desert safari promises the same list. Ours differs in one word: private. It is your vehicle on the dunes, so the driving matches your appetite — gentle for families, properly committed if you want it — and your evening runs on your clock.

After the drive: a falaj-lit camp with BBQ dinner (vegetarian and halal by default), camel rides, sandboarding, henna and the quiet spectacle of the desert going dark. The camp is operated by our permitted partner; your Aura Avenue driver stays with you door to door.

The desert works on its own clock: light that turns from white to gold in twenty minutes, dunes that change shape with the wind, and a silence you can hear. We time every departure around the light, not the schedule — and your driver knows which crest to stop on.

Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

15:00 · Pickup, city to sand
Your driver-guide collects you in the Kia Carnival and the skyline gives way to open desert in under an hour. Tyre pressures come down at the edge of the dunes — that small ritual is the door to the whole evening.
16:00 · Dune driving, done properly
A measured, expert run through the red-gold dunes — crests, bowls and long traverses, exciting without being reckless. Anyone who would rather watch than ride can swap to the front seat or sit a section out at the camp.
17:15 · The sunset stop
The vehicle stops on a high ridge as the light turns. This is the photograph you came for: long shadows, rippled sand, and a horizon with nothing man-made on it. Your guide knows which crest faces the sun and gets you there ten minutes early.
18:00 · Into the camp
A private-style bedouin camp: camel encounters, falconry when scheduled by the camp, henna, sandboards on the slip-face, and Arabic coffee with dates as the lamps come on. The activities are delivered by our permitted partner operators — you just wander between them.
19:15 · Dinner under the stars
A charcoal grill spread with salads, breads and Emirati dishes, eaten at low tables in the cool. Vegetarian and child-friendly options are standard; tell us about allergies at booking and the camp cooks around them.
21:00 · The quiet drive home
Back over the sand to the tarmac and into the city lights, most guests half asleep by the highway. Door-to-door drop-off at your hotel, typically around six hours after pickup.

Insider tips

Sit front-right for the dune drive if motion affects you — watching the line the driver picks makes all the difference.
The sandboarding is best straight after the sunset stop, while the slip-face is lit and the sand has cooled.
Bring a phone torch or headlamp for the walk between camp tables after dark — lamplight is atmospheric, not practical.
In winter months bring a proper jacket, not a hoodie: the desert can drop below 15°C after dinner.
Ask your guide for the 'empty quarter of the camp' — five minutes away from the lamps, the stars switch on properly.

Questions, answered

Is dune driving safe — and what if it is not for me?

The driving is done by trained drivers in maintained 4x4s, and the style is controlled, not stunt work. If anyone in your group would rather skip it, we route them gently to the camp and the dunes come to them at sunset instead. Children ride with proper seats and the pace calms down accordingly.

What should we wear?

Light layers: the desert is hot at four and genuinely cool by nine, especially in winter. Closed shoes or sandals you can shake sand out of, sunglasses for the drive, and a light jacket for dinner. There is no dress code at the camp beyond common sense.

Can pregnant guests or guests with back problems join?

Yes — but skip the dune-bashing leg. We drive the flat tracks straight to the camp so nothing is missed except the bouncing. Tell us at booking and the driver plans the gentle route without being asked twice.

What food is served, and can dietary needs be met?

A grilled spread with mezze, salads, breads and desserts, with vegetarian options as standard. Halal throughout. Flag allergies or specific needs when you book and the camp prepares alternatives rather than improvising on the night.

Will we see camels and falcons for certain?

Camels, yes — riding and photos are part of the camp evening. Falconry displays run on the camp's schedule and season, so we say 'usually' rather than 'always'. If a display matters to you, tell us and we will confirm before booking.

Is alcohol available at the camp?

No — desert camps are not licensed venues, so the evening runs on karak, Arabic coffee and juices. If you want a nightcap, your hotel bar will still be open when we drop you back.
