The national bird on your glove — flying displays and handling with a master falconer. A small-group experience in Abu Dhabi, run to a standard we would put our own name on — because we do.
Allow about 3 hours door to door. Departures are kept small, kit is provided, and hotel pickup can be added at checkout.
The desert works on its own clock: light that turns from white to gold in twenty minutes, dunes that change shape with the wind, and a silence you can hear. We time every departure around the light, not the schedule — and your driver knows which crest to stop on.
Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop
Pickup · Into falcon country
Your driver-guide collects you in our Kia Carnival and heads out to the falconry ground. On the drive you get the context that makes the next two hours land: falconry here isn't a show, it's UNESCO-listed living heritage, and the falcon is on the UAE's coat of arms for a reason.
Meet the falconer and the birds
A master falconer introduces the team — typically peregrines, sakers and hybrids, each with its own temperament and CV. You'll handle the kit too: the hand-stitched hoods, the jesses, the tiny telemetry that tracks a bird flying beyond eyesight.
The flying display
The falconer swings the lure and the bird works it — climbing, turning, and folding into a stoop that's genuinely hard to follow with the naked eye. Peregrines are the fastest animals on the planet, and you'll believe it.
A falcon on your glove
You put on the falconer's glove and a bird steps calmly onto your fist. Hold your arm level and still, and it will sit there entirely unbothered while every camera in your family goes to work.
Questions with the master
Time to ask everything — how a wild-natured bird learns to return, what a falcon eats, why the hood calms rather than distresses. The falconer's answers are usually the part guests quote at dinner.
The drive back
Gloves off, photos checked, and back to your hotel in the Carnival. The whole experience typically runs around three hours door to door.
Insider tips
- Book the morning session if you can — the birds fly keenest in cool air and the light is kinder for photos.
- Keep your gloved arm level and still and the bird settles in seconds. Wobbly arms get wobbly falcons.
- Put your camera in burst mode before the stoop. Nobody catches it single-shot; the bird is faster than your reflexes.
- Stand with the sun behind you for the glove photo, or the falcon becomes a very fast silhouette.
- Ask the falconer about hood-making and telemetry. It's the question that opens him up, and the stories are worth the trip on their own.
Questions, answered
Will the falcon actually sit on my arm?
Yes. You wear the falconer's glove and the bird steps onto your fist under his direct supervision. It's calm, brief if you want it brief, and the photograph is usually the trip's favourite.
Is this suitable for children?
Yes — children are often the most spellbound guests. The glove moment is done one at a time with the falconer controlling everything, and he'll size the moment to the child. Little ones just need to manage standing still.
Is falconry ethical?
These are working birds in the care of a professional falconer, and their welfare is his livelihood and his reputation. Falconry in the UAE is UNESCO-recognised living heritage with serious conservation rules around it. Ask the falconer hard questions — he'll welcome them.
Can I take photos?
Absolutely, and you should. The only rule is no flash close to the birds, and to follow the falconer's lead during the flying display so nobody stands where the bird wants to land.
Does it run in summer?
Yes, but sessions sit in the cooler edges of the day and displays are kept sensible — the birds fly when it's right for them, not for the schedule. In high summer expect a shorter display and more handling time in shade.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes in calm colours, closed shoes, and nothing that flaps — loose scarves and billowing sleeves are the one thing falcons genuinely dislike. Sunglasses help, since you'll spend a lot of time looking up.
