A day at the desert's most photographed resort — pool, lunch and dunes, transfers included. This is a fully private experience in Liwa: your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, and an itinerary that flexes on the day.
One price covers the whole vehicle for up to 6 guests — bring the family and the price does not move. Allow about 10 hours. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.
The desert works on its own clock: light that turns from white to gold in twenty minutes, dunes that change shape with the wind, and a silence you can hear. We time every departure around the light, not the schedule — and your driver knows which crest to stop on.
Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop
Morning · The long road south
Your driver-guide collects you typically around 08:00 in our Kia Carnival and points it south towards the Liwa crescent — around two and a half hours, with a coffee stop on the way. The scenery does a slow costume change from city to scrub to serious desert.
Arrival · The dune wall
The resort appears against dunes on the scale of apartment blocks — this is the edge of the Rub' al Khali, the largest sand desert on earth. Your guide handles the day-pass check-in while you stand there recalibrating your sense of what a dune is.
Pool morning
The first half of the day belongs to the pool, with the dune wall as the backdrop. It is a strong contender for the best swimming view in the country, and you'll have hours rather than minutes to enjoy it.
Lunch at the resort
Lunch at the resort restaurant is included in your day. Take it slowly — this is a resort built for people who aren't in a hurry, and today that includes you.
Afternoon on the sands
Walk out from the resort onto the dunes themselves — even two hundred metres puts you alone in the Empty Quarter. The resort offers its own desert activities for those who want more, arranged directly with them and subject to availability.
Golden hour and home
The last hour of light turns the dunes apricot and the shadows razor-sharp; it's the photograph you came for. Then the Carnival carries you home while you doze, typically arriving back around ten hours after pickup.
Insider tips
- Don't leave before golden hour. The last sixty minutes of light on those dunes is the entire argument for the ten-hour day.
- Pack a proper pool bag — swimwear, cover-up, book — plus a scarf or hat for the dune walk. Sun bounces off that sand from every angle.
- Want a spa slot or a resort activity? Book it ahead through the resort — day guests compete with house guests for the diary.
- Walk two hundred metres past the resort's edge and stop. No buildings, no people, just the Rub' al Khali — the best free upgrade of the day.
- The drive home is the official nap. Lean into it; that's what the driver-guide is for.
Questions, answered
How long is the drive?
Around two and a half hours each way from Abu Dhabi city, in a comfortable car with a driver-guide and a stop en route. It's a genuine expedition to the edge of the Empty Quarter, which is exactly why the setting is unmatched.
What's included?
Return transfers with your driver-guide and a resort day pass covering pool access and lunch, with the dunes on the doorstep. Extras such as spa treatments or the resort's own desert activities are booked directly with the resort and paid separately.
Is there a dress code?
Swimwear is fine at the pool; around the restaurant and public areas, smart-casual with reasonable coverage suits the setting. Bring a cover-up and a pair of shoes you can walk sand in.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes — the pool and the dunes fill a day happily. The honest caveat is the drive: five hours in the car across the day, so it suits children who travel well. Tell us ages when booking and we'll advise.
When is the best time of year?
October to April is prime — warm pool weather and dunes you can walk in comfort. Summer visits work too, but they become pool-centric, with the dunes best saved for the final hour of the day.
Do I need to bring anything for entry?
Bring photo ID for each adult — resort security may ask at the gate, and check-in is smoother with it. Beyond that: swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera cover the day.
