The brief · Ten days, nothing rushed
Everything the seven-day covers — all seven emirates, Liwa's dunes, Jebel Jais, the east coast — with second nights, slow mornings and a Musandam day added. This is the itinerary for people who hate the word itinerary. One driver-guide throughout; the plan flexes daily.
Days 1–3 · Abu Dhabi and Liwa, with breathing room
The capital's headline sights without a stopwatch, then south to the Empty Quarter's edge with time to actually sit on a dune. An overnight near Liwa buys you the two prizes day-trippers miss: the stars, and the dunes at dawn.
Days 4–5 · Dubai at your own speed
One day for the classics — the Creek by abra, the souks, Downtown and the Burj Khalifa's decks at dusk. One day for whatever you like: the Palm, more museums, shopping, a beach, or nothing at all. We plan the second day with you the evening before, not a month in advance.
Days 6–7 · The northern emirates and Jebel Jais
Sharjah's heritage quarter and museums, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain's quiet corniches, then Ras Al Khaimah and the switchback road up the UAE's highest mountain. Two days means lunches are long and viewpoints are lingered at.
Day 8 · Musandam by dhow
Across the border into Oman's Musandam peninsula, where a traditional dhow cruises fjord-like inlets under bare rock — run with our partner operator. Dolphins make regular, unscripted appearances. Border formalities apply, and we brief you on documents well before travel.
Days 9–10 · The east coast and the long exhale
Over the Hajar to Fujairah's forts and a proper swim at Khor Fakkan, then a genuinely slow final day before the airport. You leave having seen the whole country, not just its tallest parts.
Insider tips
- Keep at least one day genuinely empty — the best hours of a long trip are usually the unplanned ones, and this route has slack for them.
- Take the Musandam dhow in the morning if you can; the water in the inlets is typically calmer and the light on the rock is better.
- Spend the second Liwa night if stars matter to you — the Empty Quarter's edge has the darkest sky within reach of the cities.
- Pack for three climates: coastal humidity, mountain chill on Jebel Jais, and cold desert nights from November to March. A couple of layers covers all of it.
- Plan a mid-trip laundry stop at your Dubai base rather than overpacking — ten days out of one suitcase is easily done that way.
Questions, answered
Do we need our passports for the Musandam day?
Yes — Musandam is Oman, so you cross an international border and passports are essential. Entry requirements vary by nationality, and we brief you on exactly what your documents need well before travel. If a crossing does not suit your paperwork, we substitute an equally good day on the UAE side.
Can we customise the route?
That is rather the point of the ten-day. The skeleton — cities, Liwa, mountains, Musandam, east coast — is proven, but days stretch, swap and drop to taste. The flexible Dubai day and the slow final day exist precisely so the trip can breathe around what you discover you love.
How often do we change hotels?
Typically three or four bases across the ten days: the capital, Liwa or the desert, Dubai, and the northern or eastern coast. Each move is a driving day with sights en route, never a transfer for its own sake. Luggage stays with the vehicle, so moves cost you nothing but a checkout.
Is ten days too long with children?
Not if the pace is built for them, which is what we do — the slow mornings and free days that suit honeymooners suit six-year-olds equally well. Car seats are fitted on request, and the dhow day and desert camps are family-friendly with age guidance from our partner operators. Tell us ages and we will be honest about which days need softening.
What is the best season for the full route?
October to April, without much argument — desert nights are cool enough for a jumper, Jebel Jais is crisp, and the Musandam sea is at its calmest. Summer versions exist with early starts and interior-weighted days. Ten days gives us slack to shuffle around any hot spell or rare rainy one.
How much of each day is spent in the car?
On city days, very little; on moving days, typically two to three hours broken into legs with real stops. Ten days over the seven-day's route means the same distances spread thinner. And because your driver-guide does all of it, drive time is effectively rest time with a view.
