Your day, stop by stop
Book your date
Tickets are dated, with entry organised into time slots on busier days. Weekends and holiday weeks fill first, so book a few days ahead if your schedule is fixed. The museum typically closes one day a week — check the closed day when you book rather than learning it at the door.
The voucher lands on your phone
Your e-ticket arrives by email with a scannable code. No printing needed, no collection queue. Save it offline — the Saadiyat sea breeze is more reliable than roaming data.
At the gate
The museum sits on Saadiyat Island, an easy drive from downtown Abu Dhabi — we can run you there in the Carnival if you would rather not think about parking. Security screening at the entrance is quick; large bags go into free lockers. Scan your code and you are in.
Under the dome
The galleries run in chronological order, one civilisation answering another, and the famous dome scatters its rain of light over the outdoor plaza between them. Give it around two to three hours, more if you read every label. Finish outside under the dome — that is the photograph you came for.
Insider tips
- Book a late-afternoon entry so you end your visit under the dome as the sun drops — the rain-of-light effect is at its best in low sun.
- The plaza under the dome is the free encore. Walk it slowly, from several angles, before you leave.
- Photography without flash is generally welcome in the galleries — check signage in the temporary exhibitions.
- Pair it with Qasr Al Watan or the Corniche for a full capital culture day; the Carnival makes the logistics disappear.
- The museum café tables by the water are the cheapest waterfront seat on Saadiyat. Time lunch accordingly.
Questions, answered
Is my ticket valid all day?
The ticket is for a specific date, and on busy days entry is organised by time slot. Once inside you can stay as long as you like within opening hours. Check the day's hours and the weekly closed day when booking.
Do children pay?
Reduced and free entry for younger visitors exists — the exact age bands are confirmed at booking. Bring ID for anyone near the age boundaries.
Can I cancel or change my date?
Dated museum tickets are typically non-refundable once issued, though date changes are sometimes possible with notice. The precise terms are confirmed at booking.
Are temporary exhibitions included?
The permanent galleries are covered by standard entry. Major temporary exhibitions sometimes require a separate or combined ticket — we confirm what your ticket covers at booking so there are no surprises at the gallery door.
How long do I need?
Around two to three hours covers the permanent galleries at a civilised pace. Art lovers can lose half a day. There is a café under the dome when your feet file a complaint.
Is there a dress code?
No formal dress code — this is a museum, not a mosque. Ordinary modest clothing is fine, and comfortable shoes matter more than anything else. If you are combining it with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on the same day, dress for the mosque: shoulders and knees covered, and a headscarf for women.
