Your day, stop by stop

  1. Book your date

Choose your date at booking — this is a working Presidential Palace, so on rare occasions sections close for state functions, and your visit flexes around that. Evening visits typically catch the palace lit up, and a light-and-sound show typically runs after dark; check what is on for your date.

  2. The voucher lands on your phone

Your e-ticket arrives by email with a scannable code. No printing needed. Dress before you leave the hotel: this is a state building, so shoulders and knees covered for everyone — the same courtesy the Grand Mosque asks, minus the headscarf.

  3. At the gate

You enter through the visitor centre, where tickets are scanned and bags screened, then a shuttle carries you up the drive to the palace itself. The approach is the first act — white stone, fountains, and a building that does not do modesty. Arrive around 30 minutes before any show you want to catch.

  4. Inside the palace

The Great Hall is the centrepiece — stand dead centre under the dome and look up. Beyond it are the House of Knowledge, the gift rooms of visiting heads of state, and gardens that stay open into the evening. Around two hours covers it well; the light show, when running, is worth staying for.

Insider tips

  • Go in the last two hours of daylight: white stone at golden hour, then the palace lit after dark. One visit, two palaces.
  • Stand in the exact centre of the Great Hall and photograph straight up into the dome. Everyone queues for the same spot because it is the right spot.
  • The gardens and terraces out front are the calmest part of the visit — most guests rush past them on the way in.
  • Combine it with the Grand Mosque on one day and dress for the stricter of the two; what satisfies the mosque satisfies the palace.
  • The shuttle from the visitor centre runs both ways — do not attempt the drive on foot in summer. Nobody wins that argument with the sun.

Questions, answered

Is there a dress code?

Yes. It is a working Presidential Palace, so modest dress is required: shoulders and knees covered for men and women. No headscarf is needed — that is the mosque's requirement, not the palace's. Turn up in beachwear and the gate will politely send you shopping.

Is entry timed?

Tickets are dated, and entry may be organised into slots on busy days. Once inside you can explore at your own pace within opening hours. Check the day's hours when booking.

Could parts of the palace be closed?

Occasionally, yes — it is a genuine seat of government, and state business outranks tourism. Closures are rare and usually partial. That is the trade for visiting a real working palace rather than a replica.

Do children pay less?

Children's rates exist and the youngest typically enter free — the exact bands are confirmed at booking. The Great Hall tends to silence even the loudest of them, briefly.

Can I get a refund?

Dated tickets are typically non-refundable once issued, with date changes sometimes possible ahead of time. Exact terms are confirmed at booking. If the palace itself closes fully for a state event, rebooking is normally offered.

Is the evening light show included?

A light-and-sound show on the palace façade typically runs in the evenings, and whether it is bundled with your entry or ticketed separately is confirmed at booking. Either way, plan an evening visit if you want it — it does not run in daylight, for obvious reasons.
